In March of this year we had the chance to make a study trip to Japan. I had no much time to draw unless during this peaceful evening that Alex Kerr shared with us at Chiiori, Iya Valley, on Shikoku Island.
I did this drawing at the end of a one day trip to Roma. We came by train with friends from Forano where we celebrated the 10th birthday of Peter and Teresa's wedding... and I remember how difficult it was to finish the painting because of the sudden happening of a typical italian wedding on the Capitole.
This summer I had the chance to come back in two italian cities I like very much: Verona and Bergamo Alta. I was for once happy to see that almost nothing had changed.
In Bergamo, Giovanni Cappello made me the pleasure to take some photos of me drawing il Duomo
from the terrace of the Bettina and Egidio's Albergo Milano.
from the old haven.
the narrow stairs like this one are really typical of the urban structure of Varenna, with each time another framed view on the Lago and the mountains to the West.
I love the light and colors of the landscape around the Lago di Como... especially from Varenna, Centro Lago, with the sunset on Menaggio.
from Bettina and Egidio 's garden
or from Savina's place in Fiumelatte, framed by Bellagio to the South and Varenna to the North, here with white light and cloudy sky.
